As I am sure most of you know, today and yesterday were some pretty big and exciting days for US politics, as the Supreme Court has been hearing arguments regarding Prop. 8 and DOMA, two of the most influential pieces of legislation regarding gay marriage. So, in the spirit of things (and because last week I sent along some heavy duty academic style writing) I’m going to give you some of my favorite gay themed videos (and pieces with homo undertones) and ride my glitter-winged rainbow unicorn into the sky for the night.
Talk soon, boys (and pay special attention to that last video!)
“You Belong With Me” -Gay Version
A while back the boys of the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets (who we also know from NBC‘s Sing Off), made a gay version of Taylor Swift‘s “You Belong With Me” video with painstaking attention to detail. It’s hilarious and cute. And it got national media attention. I know it’s not metal, but whatever.
The L Word Season One trailer
Back in 2004 Showtime decided to capitalize on the success of their gay themed series Queer As Folk (which I wrote about last week) by creating The L Word, a lesbian themed show revolving around women in West Hollywood. The result was sometimes epic, sometimes insane, and all the time awesome/randomly softcore. Plus, the entire series just made its way to Netflix (again), so watch up!
“Criminal,” Fiona Apple
This video makes me want to have a secret sex party in my family’s basement. While not explicitly homo, it’s got that homoerotic tone we all know and love. Plus, every time I watch it I feel like I’m watching something I’m not supposed to, which means it’s super good, right?!
“Smack My Bitch Up,” Prodigy
My favourite music video of all time. I’ll admit, I was fooled by the ending at first. Completely and utterly. What a brilliant exercise in gender fuckery.
“No Wire Hangers,” Mommy Dearest
No words for the campest classic ever.
“Gay Men Will Marry Your Girlfriend”
If this isn’t the best and most convincing argument in favor of gay marriage, I don’t know what is. (I kid)
