Perhaps not God, but certainly a deity of the hardcore scene, as “The Promises Of God” – the brand new tune from award-winning Canadian trio KEN Mode – features guest vocals from scene stalwart Dave Verellen, ex-of mathcore heroes Botch and current fontman of Narrows.
It’s the second track to be revealed from Entrench, the band’s forthcoming LP and follow up to Venerable, their 2011 effort. The release of this blinder of a track has set sparks flying and mouths frothing in The Monolith offices. Due to be released on March 19th through Season Of Mist, Stereogum have captured the stream of the track, which you can listen to here. Seriously, go do that. Now. Why are you still here?
Vocalist Jesse Matthewson is right on form too, sounding like Converge‘s resident banshee Jacob Bannon, hollering over the top of an absolutely frenetic hardcore musical assault along side the erstwhile Botch vocalist. After five records in ten years, as well as a Juno Award, KEN Mode are really making waves for themselves, and it’s undoubted that Entrench - which also features guest vocals from Tim Singer of Deadguy/Kiss It Goodbye - will be a fantastic mark on the genre’s book this year if this – and previously released track “Counter Culture Complex” are anything to go by.
If this has piqued your interest and stuck a boot up your jacksie, you can catch KEN Mode on their upcoming tour with Today Is The Day, Black Tusk and Fight Amp, which kicks off early March in Brooklyn, NY, and will traverse North America fairly extensively. Prepare to be uncomfortable, and to love every minute of it. Dates up in the events calendar shortly.
