Check out Dread Sovereign as they get happy with the matches

While making a few regular rounds on YouTube last night, I happened upon this one recently uploaded song from a band known as Dread Sovereign. What I heard was enough to make me investigate the band more. After doing a bit of research on them, I found that they are a three piece, made up of members of the band Primordial, which is damn fine pedigree to have. Originally conceived by Nemtheanga, vocalist and bassist for Primordial, he was joined by Primordial drummer Dubh SOL and Bones (Wizards of Firetop Mountain) on guitar, with the goal of “rough, raw old school doom/metal which hails of Venom, Saint Vitus, Cirith Ungol and touches of late 80s early sepulchral black metal..”

The song, “Thirteen Clergy to the Flames”, is sepulchral, soul-crushing, fiery epic doom metal. The guitar tone is thick and powerful, the drumming is thundering, the riffs and melodies dark and memorable, and the powerful and passionate vocals complete the offering of greatness. Nemtheanga’s vocals have a massive impact on this track; he sounds ominous and booming in the verses, and then cranks of the intensity for the chorus, sounding almost insane, condemning the clergy to burn in fire like some sort of mad priest.

The track can be heard here:

It is the first track to be made available from Dread Sovereign’s upcoming debut 12” LP Pray to the Devil in Man, which will be released by Roadburn Records in April. Dread Sovereign will be making their first live appearance at Roadburn Festival, which will coincide with the release of the 12”.
