If you have a spare $2500, I know exactly what you can do with it…

Things like this really make you realise HOW important a label Hydrahead Records are/were, and HOW MUCH of a travesty it is that they’ve been allowed to lapse into closing.

The label, headed by ex-ISIS frontman Aaron Turner, officially began closing operations in September 2012 after nearly 20 years, saying in a lengthy blog post:

“The decision to pull the plug has not been an easy one, and in some ways is a not a choice at all. The simple fact of the matter is we’ve been running on empty for a while now and cannot afford to keep our doors open for much longer. Years of imbalance between creative ideals and financial realities, personal problems amongst the label operators, an unwillingness to compromise our aesthetic standards, a tendency towards releasing challenging (i.e. unmarketable) artists, and the steady decline of the music industry in general, are amongst the chief reasons for our inability to continue. It is a harsh but undeniable reality, and one which we are attempting to confront with as much integrity and grace as is afforded by the circumstances.”

They are technically still chugging along, maintaining their back catalogue in order to pay off “rather sizable debts,” and are clearing out the basement to raise money for their 2014 catalog releases, which include:

Khlyst Chaos is My Name LP
Cave In Jupiter re-mastered + bonus 12″
Khanate - Things Viral 3xLP
Jesu Conqueror 2xLP
Old Man Gloom Seminars I-III
Botch Unifying Themes Redux 2xLP
Botch - vinyl box set
Boris Merzbow Sun Baked Snow Cave 2xLP

Rather amazingly, this clear-out amounts to 87 rare and original test pressings of some phenomenal releases from the likes of Botch, Cave In, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Boris, Coalesce, Pelican, Converge, Goatsnake, Jesu, Xasthur , DaughtersKhanate, Kayo DotNeurosisAgoraphobic Nosebleed and maany many more – all for the princely sum of $2500. Says the listing over at Real Tomato Ketchup:

“Seriously, no f’n around on this one. A whole pile of HHR test pressings, including many of the most sought after gems. ALMOST the entire collection. Here’s what’s in it, 87 test pressings in all, (all are 1st press/originals)”
