In honour of the International Day Of Happiness (also officially the first day of spring – go figure), we’ve got a topical (as opposed to bullshit, off the top of our heads) question for you today.
We listen to different music for different reasons/purposes. Depressed and angry at the world? Black metal/emo (no kidding!). Pissed off, waiting in line at the DMV? We got some death metal to put the fear of Lucifer up your fellows’ long johns. Standing on top of a mountain swinging a battleaxe at goblins? Power metal.
But we want to know…
What songs/albums/bands make you really happy?
I have several – even from different genres outside metal – that do the trick.
The first is most of Death From Above 1979‘s You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine, but specifically the Justice remix of “Blood On Our Hands“. It grooves so damn hard that I can’t help but crack a smile. It’s got me pumped on many a Friday evening after a tough week at work.
The second is Every Time I Die‘s “The New Black“. I can’t help but picture the video every time I hear it, which is dumb and goofy, and that’s part of the reason why I love the band.
The third, coming from the realm of white-guy rap, is pretty much everything by George Watsky, but I’ll leave you with “Energy”. His stuff may be hella cheesy sometimes, but that’s kind of the point, and he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
In fact, I think my girlfriend finds it more uplifting than me – mostly to see her supposedly “metal” boyfriend dancing around to rap…
