KEN mode’s Success is all in their trousers…

KEN mode 2015

Three weeks ago, award-winning Canadian noise terrors KEN mode offered the first glimpse of their new album Success with a particularly menacing and off-kilter track called “Blessed, featuring Oxbow legend Eugene Robinson and a whole heap of dirty, fuzzy attitude – but more than that, it was weird for them. Normally at home riffing and rioting, this was KEN mode more slow and weird. But we liked it.

Today we have another slice of the album though: a three-minute ditty called “These Tight Jeans“:

Speaking about it, frontman/guitarist Jesse Matthewson said:

“[It's a] post-punk-rock tribute to the absolute insanity of the ‘hater’ culture that plagues the media, social networking, and our daily lives as human beings alive in 2015. Stop disrespecting each other and go run a marathon, do some push-ups, read a book, create something: Get a life. Life’s too short.”

Fucking amen. The repeated refrain of “I would like to kill the nicest man in the world” plays into the notion of shitting all over people we don’t even know – people who create art and vibrancy and throw it into the aether, only to have some pissant offer a sneer in response to their surface understanding.

Musically, it’s still not quite what we’ve come to know from the band, even if it is pacier – but it’s a good different, and another sign that this record is poised to be well named.

Success comes out June 16th via Season Of Mist. KEN mode’s calendar is pretty full for the next few months; they’ve just completed a quick blistering 10 date tour of mainland Europe with Cortez, and they return for a second leg in late May/early June, and then there’ll be a Canadian/northern USA run with Fight Amp in mid-June, so your chances to catch them are ample.
