Long Distance Calling - Boundlessal bum art

Long Distance Calling

2nd February 2018 – InsideOut Music

German post-rockers Long Distance Calling return after just two short years with their sixth full length Boundless. This marks their second release with InsideOut Music and their first foray into more aggressive territory.

Working off a hymn sheet of frenetic riffing and repetitive meanderings that never quite reach a climax, with Boundless the realisation is clear that Long Distance Calling are in dire need of a permanent vocalist. These songs certainly show off the influences the bands’ recent touring partners – namely Protest The Hero – have had on them, but with that you can never shake off the feeling that a spark is missing.

Boundless isn’t a bad album but it suffers heavily from some pacing issues through the front half and clearly overstaying its welcome by the time the second half rolls around. Long Distance Calling are capable of creating something insightful and exciting but unfortunately for them, this is the other thing.
