It’s nearly time u guise. Five years, several blasphemy-related court dates and a bout of leukemia since their last album Evangelion, and we’re about to receive the unholy offering that is Behemoth‘s new record The Satanist.

The release is just under a week away now, and so the time is obviously ripe to hear some new material to get everyone pumped (as if they weren’t already – come on, this is a fairly big deal). To that end, the band have released “Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer,” which is latin for “pray for us Lucifer.” Behemoth have never been shy about embracing satanic themes, from their lyrics right through to their garb and on-stage antics (frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski has been to court a number of times over blasphemy charges relating to this – which has included tearing up bibles during shows – which is serious enough to be a legal matter in Poland, a country of some 86.7% Roman Catholics), and this is all reflected in the new tracks. Hell, the album’s called The Satanist – would we expect anything else?

There is also a video for the track, which draws back the literal curtains on the lyrics, and allows us to discern such gems as “scholar ov the unlight, great volcano ov excrement, rippling eager to erupt, reconstellate the firmament” and “phallus dei, erect from pole to pole. Viva blasphemius in coitus infinitus.” Vucking vantastic.

We had heard a track all the way back in August – “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” – so The Satanist has been a long time coming.

Regarding the album, in a press release from the label, Nergal simply said:

The Satanist is magic. It’s dangerous. It’s adventurous, and it’s organic.”

It also sounds fucking great. I’m not a big death metal fan, but the whole thing oozes quality, and the production is superb. Seriously; you’re going to have to cleanse your pallet afterwards, or everything else is going to sound like fetid poop hitting a steel sheet.

The Satanist is out February 4th through Metal Blade, and the band are kicking off on a European tour with Cradle Of Filth, In Solitude, Inquisition and Svarttjern from February 7th, and will then be in North America throughout April on the Metal Alliance Tour with 1349, Goatwhore, Inquisition and Black Crown Initiate, so there are plenty of chances to see Behemoth in 2014 already!
