Monuments debut new song “The Indulger” online
Fresh from the departure of vocalist Matt Rose, Monuments have cracked right on with things and released an instrumental version of a new song – partly to show what they’re doing now, and partly by way of audition material for any prospective replacement.
The tune is a near four minute called “The Indulger“, and it’s the first new material we’ve heard since the band’s debut album Gnosis dropped last year. With that itself being delayed by vocalist issues, it’s no surprise that the band want to crack on with finding a new one – this song (or at least a few others for the next record) has likely been in the bank for a while now, and it sounds pretty polished as such.
As mentioned, the song is partly designed to be used as part of the audition process for anyone who wants to apply to be the band’s new vocalist. An audition pack has been released to that effect, which you can download here, and also includes an instrumental version of Gnosis track “Doxa“. This multi-faceted approach is so they can see what auditionees’ writing style is like – apparently a source of contention with Rose – as well as how they interpret the current parts.
Submissions have likely already been flying in already, with the following being the most visible one – from Tony Spadaro, vocalist and guitarist of French trio Debunk. I liked what I heard from this one, but there will surely be hot competition for a coveted spot in one of the scene’s rising stars.
There is no time limit set on this process – the band will keep going until they find the right fit – but if you’re thinking of going for it, you’d be advised to do it sooner rather than later to ensure it’s you!
