Who are the ‘thinners of the herd’?

”If you are ready to see the world with code orange vision email your name and address to”

So sayeth Code Orange Kids, Deathwish Inc.’s young hardcore heroes who broke into international recognition in 2012 with their stunning debut Love Is Love // Return To Dust. It was especially notable given the mean average age of the band was something like 18 at the time. You can read exactly what I thought of it here, but suffice to say it’s packed with infectious ire and face-contorting aggression in spades.

It’s been fifteen months since its release, but you could hardly say the band have been resting on their laurels. They tour almost relentlessly – even now they’re on tour in Europe with Twitching Tongues (the first date of which is tonight in Frankfurt, incidentally) – but even so, it’s not inconceivable to think that they might be thinking about their next release.

But not at the moment, apparently. The ‘Thinners Of The Herd’ campaign they’re currently pushing on their Facebook page (and possible beyond, with the six posters above) is allegedly not related to the next record:

this isn’t about money or press or records sold. this is about all of us. the thinners of the herd. destroying them.

So what is it then? We’ve signed up, but not received anything other than a confirmation yet. We are a bit late to the party though – on Tuesday they were asking people to send their name and address, but no longer – there’s now a website that just asks for your name and e-mail – so perhaps they are sending some of the early signups (of which there are at least 1000 already) something fun?

Short answer is: we don’t know what this is about, but it’s rather intriguing isn’t it? Yes? No? Just us? Well, fine, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the Kids. Just be sure not to drink anything they give you, in case it’s kool-aid…
