’68 are projectors, yeah
When we get to this time of year, the topic of best-of lists always comes up, and without fail I get in a blind panic about everything that I’ve missed, forgotten about, or just not given enough time to.
My major omission of the year, which I’ll be looking to rectify before the end of the year as I try to cram about 30 albums into 2 or 3 weeks, is ’68‘s In Humor And Sadness. That’s not to say we haven’t covered the American duo – comprised of drummer Michael McClellan (ex-Becoming The Archetype) and guitarist/vocalist Josh Scogin (ex-Norma Jean and The Chariot) – as we saw them on two different occasions over the summer, but it’s still a bit of an ommission.
Thankfully we’ve been given a timely reminder, as the pair have just released a new video for “Track 5“. Have a look:
Clever, eh? Combining projection and physical performance, they’ve doubled up into a four-piece of sorts. There are some very visually pleasing aspects to this, and it’s both super DIY and very effective.
I love the stripped-back vibe you get from only having three instruments (or two, plus voice) – Scogin is very recognisable for his style, and pairs well with the southern, almost spoken-word format. It’s punk.
Despite only having been our side of the pond a few months ago, the band are returning with Trophy Scars after their current U.S. run with Anberlin finishes:
