Atilla release unintentionally hilarious music video for album title track “About That Life”
If I began this post by saying that Atilla are the personification of everything that is bad within the metal music industry, that would probably be paying them a compliment. You see, Atilla are in actuality, a pretty average deathcore band who wouldn’t stand out from the crowd if it wasn’t for their uncanny talent of generating controversy.
Repulsive frontman Chris Fronzak is seemingly quite the fisherman, as he lays down bait on his Twatter feed constantly, trying to incite the rage and furor of the metal press and people who aren’t fans of deathcore, whilst also trying to generate the level of fandom undeserving of a band with such little originality or talent.
Atilla’s music is basic anthemic deathcore, with partying in mind. Fronzak is actually a relatively talented vocalist for deathcore, it’s just a shame that his lyrics are appalling in almost every way imaginable. If general stupidity, misogyny, racism, homophobia, and drug taking are all things you look for in your favourite lyricists then congratulations, here’s your new favourite band.
Clearly, Atilla have done something right though, as they’ve managed to sell close to 15,000 copies in the first week of release, so actually from a marketing and branding stand point, well done to those guys. Considering they’ve tripled their previous album’s sales in just a week I’d say that they have certainly accomplished something there. Congratulations Attila!
In all seriousness though, this is what the kids are buying and listening to. Which actually goes some way to indicating that the values that mainstream metal espouses really aren’t that much better than the views promoted by mainstream pop music. As if Fronzak and co. had read my mind they’ve turned to the folks at Motion Family, who have previously done music video work for various mainstream acts including Lil’ Wayne – to create a video that could easily be one of the many cut and paste videos that appear on MTV every day.
Basically, we get a music video that bears all the hallmarks of the current generation of materialism over talent, shaking asses (twerking), bling (swag), big houses, swimming pools and club scenes. It’s funny to us because it’s just so ridiculous, but then you remember that a lot of people take this stuff really seriously, and it actually just makes you weep for the species. Head on over to Revolver to expose yourself to it, but really all the video does is cheapen everyone involved in it.
The funniest part of all of this is that the only way for Atilla to expand upon what they’ve already done and make even more money, would be to drop Fronzak altogether. Seriously, drop the screamer and bring in a mainstream rapper, because if they keep this up, you’re just going to end up with the deathcore version of LMFAO.
Oh, and seeing as you’re here, check out their “controversial” lyric video for “Break Shit“, which is basically the really stupid, hardcore radikult version of Limp Bizkit‘s “Break Stuff” except where lyrics should be, instead you’ll find them replaced with the word “Fuck”. Oh, and boobs.

What do you guys think? Do you like About That Life? Is this video just ridiculous? Does it represent a greater issue?
