Between the Buried and Me launch “Lay Your Ghosts to Rest” video

Between The Buried And Me - Lay Your Ghosts To Rest video

Unless you’ve been to see them live of late, things have been quiet for fans of North Carolina natives Between The Buried And Me. Their last record, 2012′s Parallax II: Future Sequence, came out just over eighteen months ago now, and they’ve basically just been touring the shit out of it. A few spins around North America, plus some European action, and even a trip to Australia, means that the band have been busy, but not in a creative way.

Well, sort of. I’m sure there’s been writing going on at some point, but more to the point, the band have been filming away. We can only presume a DVD is in the works, but one product that has come to light is a video that mashes a lot of performance footage with some graphical wizardy to produce this, a ten and a half-minute epic for Parallax II‘s third track “Lay Your Ghosts To Rest.”

If you’re a fan or not, it’s hard to deny that it’s very well done. All the performance sections are in slow motion, so it doesn’t actually match normal performance videos in that respect, but it’s a cool look at their live show at any rate. There are a few behind-the-scenes shots too, featuring our own fair land’s The Safety Fire,. Beyond that, the video breaks into some graphical stuff and it gets all spacey and astral for a bit.

Honestly, although it’s well done, I’m not sure why I’ve sat and watched it twice. The song itself is of course fairly old at this point, and you’ll either know it well or not at all probably. So why now? Why revisit it as a promotional item?

Well, one of two reasons (or maybe both). One is the potential DVD – it’s a good way to sell such a thing – but probably more immediately, the band have a couple of tours coming up: one next month with bassist Dan Briggs’ side-project Trioscapes, and then another in June in support of veteran Swedes Meshuggah on their 25th anniversary tour.
