New Cyclamen video for “百折不撓 (Hyakusetsu-Futou)” featuring Travis Orbin is premiered online

Cyclamen - 百折不撓 (Hyakusetsu-Futou) ft. Travis Orbin screen cap Ashura

We have a super soft soft-spot for Japanese experimental metal project/band Cyclamen. The brainchild of Hayato Imanishi, the project has gone through periods of being a fully-fleshed out band and a lone bedroom-project, but the ethos has always remained the same; Hayato is fiercely independent, DIY, and incredibly discerning when it comes to promoting his product. In fact, he makes a living as a musician and has been kind enough to lend his wisdom in an ongoing series right here on this site.

Whilst he was based over in the UK he counted Monuments‘ own Olly Steele amongst his bandmates, and in the past has worked with former SikTh vocalist Mikee Goodman, Daniel Tompkins (ex-TesseracT, Skyharbor)
Boris Le Gal of Chimp Spanner and drummer-extraordinaire Travis Orbin. Whilst the band’s new lineup is entirely based in Japan, he still maintains these relationships, and had Orbin help out with the recordings for their latest album Ashura (which was named as one of our favourite independent releases from last year).

From that has come a second video (view the first here) for the track ”百折不撓 (Hyakusetsu-Futou)“, a short but shreddingly-sweet number that is at the same time catchy, and also a bit of a head-scratcher. Check it out:

Says Imanishi:

“Everything was recorded using microphones and no simulation, line recording or pitch correction was used, with the very minimal editing. Most parts are recorded with one take.

In another words, these recordings are the truest to our live performance we’ve ever come to. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do – We’re very proud to have produced something as organic as this!”

2014 promises to be a good year for the band. They’re currently on tour in Japan, and will be playing with Periphery next week, and then March will see them head out on the FREE French Connection tour with Nightshade, Sworn Amongst and Honour Is Dead. Catch that if you can! Full dates below:
