The Ocean sink to the Bathyalpelagic layer in their new video

The Ocean The Wish I Dreams screen cap

If you caught anything of The Ocean week, you’ll know how highly we regard Germany’s The Ocean, and if you read either of our reviews (instrumental and/or vocal) of their latest album Pelagial, you’ll know that it’s a scorcher of a record that you NEED in your collection.

Verbal fellatio aside, they really are a band whose star is on the rise; they’re currently firmly entrenched in Summer Slaughter with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders and Periphery amongst others – which is a pretty big deal – and they’ve likewise played with the likes of Between The Buried And Me and Job For A Cowboy in North America in recent years, besides their own European runs.

Pelagial came out in April, but if you subscribe to the Decapitated school of thought, it’s never too later to release a video, and this one is perfectly poised to promote them on their current and future touring runs.

It’s for the track “Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish In Dreams” – one of the album’s shorter and more immediate tracks – and clearly, with the inclusion of Loic Rossetti in the footage, it’s for the vocal version. It’s actually the band’s first ‘official’ music video, and blends performance footage (do many not these days?) with footage from the Pelagial movie from the special limited edition box sets of the album (man are those things glorious), which was created by filmmaker Craig Murray.

Pelagial is at the heart of The Ocean’s current live show, having played the album’s predecessors Heliocentric and Anthropocentric to death no doubt, so you can expect to hear this and more if you head out to see them this summer.

Excitingly, the band have also just announced an October/Novermber headlining run in Europe with the excellent Shining (NOR), Tides From Nebula and Hacride – on top of their Rest Of The World tour in August/September, which will hit up Mexico, China and Russia. Plenty of chance to see them this year then!
