Then The Wave Came return with new music
What do you get when you mix the heaviest of deathcore, death metal, prog and tech? We’re not sure, but four-piece Kentish band Then The Wave Came are back creating some sounds that hint at such a combination.
It’s been a while since we saw these guys beginning to make waves (sorry) in both the tech and deathcore scenes off the back of their 2011 EP …Of Things To Come, but they’ve returned and their progressive blast of technical death metal takes a hint at a new direction in their new single “A Vicious Retort“, which was released on the 12th August after a lengthy period of silence from the band.
The song is one that those who have seen them live will recognise from their crushing sets. Still brimming with the darkness of their EP with added production value, the single is something a bit different in these times of heavy bands either following the direction of The Acacia Strain or going the way of Vildhjarta. These guys bridge the gap between these sounds and this latest single is the best example of that so far.
We’ve seen some other promising songs from them live as well as in snippets from their YouTube channel. Whether these will go onto making a new EP or album remains to be seen but I would imagine following the brilliant reception of this single, it won’t be too long before we find out! I last recall seeing these guys earlier last year opening the Circle Of Contempt/Red Seas Fire London date of the tour so I, for one, hope to see them back in London very soon as their live performance was once to be reckoned with.
