Band’s eighth studio effort Desideratum gets an October release date
Summer is basically over now. The nights are drawing in, the weather is getting colder, and rain is a much more frequent occurrence than a month ago.
Sun-worshippy as we are, we’re fine with this, because it means we can drag a whole heap of dark, chilling albums out of the dungeon, and add to them with this autumn’s new albums. Chiefly amongst these will be the just-announced new one from British heavyweights Anaal Nathrakh.
The eighth in their catalogue, the record will be called Desideratum, which is a real word (honest) and means “something that is needed or wanted”. Probably not a long shot to assume this album is wanted by a lot of their fans – in fact, I can’t believe their last, Vanitas, was all the way back in 2012.
As if the title and art weren’t enough, we’ve also got the tracklist:
01. Acheronta Movebimu
02. Monstrum In Animo
03. The One Thing Needful
04. A Firm Foundation Of Unyielding Despair
07. Sub Specie Aeterni (Of Maggots, And Humanity)
08. The Joystream
09. Rage And Red
10. Ita Mori
…and also a brand new song in the somewhat brief “Idol“. Have a listen:
Whilst not the most avid of AN followers, the tone, pace and mode are all very them. There’s a symphonic quality to the opening guitars, strung over galloping drums as they are, and the riff immediately following is groovy as hell. David Hunt’s vocals range from stretched and scattish to violently operatic, showcasing why he’s one of the finest talents in the extreme metal scene.
Desideratum will be out on October 28th via Metal Blade, which really isn’t that far away. You can pre-order if via this link for North America, Europe and the UK, including black and coloured vinyl options.
