Code Orange continue their rise to the throne with new song

Code Orange 2014

Code Orange have grown up. We imagine Deathwish Inc., their label, have a proud tear in their eye as they witness the rebirth of the band that were once Code Orange Kids – a group whose mean age when they signed a couple of years ago was something like eighteen. A group whose debut album Love Is Love // Return To Dust blew the balls off many bands twice their age with its heady mix of anger and energy.

The quartet have cloaked themselves in mystery in recent months, and like a grim moth, have emerged from the coccoon with malice in their eyes, and conquest on their breaths. Their forthcoming statement of regality is I Am King, an album from which we’ve so far only heard the title track, but whose very aura scares the bejesus out of us.

It is with this continuing theme in mind that the band today bring us the track “My World” – and boy does it continue the trend. Check it out over at Alternative Press here.

Sludgy and imposing, like a combination of Swamp Thing and Der Golem, the track tangibly picks up pace after an almost cyberpunk, synthy low opening note (think Blade Runner or perhaps Drive); an insistent pair of discordant high guitar notes take point, before bass and drums take the reigns to lead the thundering dirge. Each of the members takes turns at the mic, spitting and snarling into it until they’re hoarse.

It’s unnerving and a bit scary, it really is. Code Orange are on a straight upward trajectory, and their forthcoming album promises big things already.

I Am King is out September 2nd through Deathwish Inc. Commence stockpiling spare underwear now, and pre-order from here. The band are on a co-headlining tour with Twitching Tongues right now – the remaining dates of which are below:
