Finch finally return with new material

Finch 2014

A couple of years ago, Californian post-hardcore band Finch surprised many by returning from their second breakup to perform a few shows in celebration of the tenth anniversary of their debut album What It Is To Burn – a tentative celebration that came about at the behest of their former manager. Things hadn’t ended particularly well, so they sort of went with it…and it turned in to several full tours, including international dates and eventually a new song called “Back To Oblivion.”

Sophomore album Say Hello To Sunshine turns ten next June, so many had wondered if it might get the same treatment as WIITB - it’s one of the finest examples of noughties post-hardcore, and the subject of some rather lyrical waxing by our own Alex Hoffman.

They’ve just finished up on this summer’s Warped Tour, but it seems that the next item on their agenda is…a new album! That mooted third that never happened will finally drop next month. It’s been a slow process, but Finch are now officially back. So warm has the reception been that the cobwebs have been blown away, and the stars have aligned.

It’s to be called Back To Oblivion, after that first new song they were playing – but they’ve today unveiled a second called “Two Guns To The Temple” which you can listen to over at Alternative Press.

It’s absolutely classic Finch. Following on from the style laid down on SHTS and the following self-titled EP, it’s heavy on Nate Barcalow’s clean vocals, but when he lets rips, it’s caustic and banshee-like as ever. The music is rich and melodic, with the drums punching infinitely grooveable punctuation throughout. It’s just what the doctor ordered.

The track-list for Back to Oblivion will look as follows:

01. Back To Oblivion
02. Anywhere But Here
03. Further From the Few
04. Murder Me
05. Picasso Trigger
06. Play Dead
07. Two Guns To the Temple
08. The Great Divide
09. Us vs. Them
10. Tarot
11. Inferium
12. New Wave

Back To Oblivion will be released through Razor & Tie on September 20th. You can pre-order it from here, and buy tissues from any local convenience store.
