Glorior Belli ruin Kevin’s chair with their filthy muck of a new song “Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls”
Glorior Belli are the kind of band that betray your ears. At first listen, they sound like a mud-covered band that was spawned in the dark heart of the Louisiana bayou. But, defying all logic, they hail from Europe; France to be exact. We wrote about this strange French band a couple weeks ago when they revealed a new song from their upcoming album, Gators Rumble Chaos Unfurls. The track, “Blackpowder Roars“, was a trip down a dusty road into the swamp. Now, the blackened sludge band have premiered the title track from the album over at Noisey.com.
“Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls” opens with a very psychedelic feeling riff that oozes slime and muck. My computer chair is ruined now, thanks guys. A slow, burning guitar melody winds its lonely way through the mire. This is clearly the “gators rumbling” part of the song.
But halfway through the track, chaos begins to unfurl. It morphs into a much more fiery blackened sludge riff, with charred black vocals. This is true apocalyptic blues metal, a kind of sound that has rarely ever been heard by the unsuspecting masses. It is strange to hear this combination from a European band, but perhaps it makes sense as a band from the deep south regions would have preconceptions about the sound and would not find it so easy to break the mold the way Glorior Belli do. In any case, this album will prove to be a strong addition to the year’s releases.
