Between Whales and Leeches, there’s no way back for the Red Fang boys

Red Fang - Whales and Leeches

Portland, Oregon-based Red Fang are rock and roll all the way through, and cut through with a streak of humour wider than the Suez Canal – hell, three of the members used to be in a band called Party Time. Channeling the style of gods like Mastodon and The Sword, the riff is strong with these ones, and they’ve this week premiered a brand new song called “No Hope”.

It’s from their forthcoming third record Whales and Leeches, and there’s definitely not no hope for this one; not only were the last two (the first being a 2-EP combination) pretty good, but “No Hope” shows off their rapidly maturing songwriting abilities, and has plenty of groove to attract newcomers to the band. Check it out!

The first exposure I had to these guys was their video for “Wires” back in 2011, in which they drove through piles of stacked up shit in a beaten up old car whilst drinking beer. That tune was perhaps a little more stoner metal than this song, but it’s no bad progression, and we’re sure there’ll be equally entertaining videos for this album cycle too, so keep your eyes peeled.

One final thing: how cool is that artwork? Owls, wolves, stags and goats; all pretty standard metal fare in terms of the animal kingdom, but the composition is fucking fantastic. Hats off to the artist, and as one Facebook commenter put it, “Acid is one helluva drug”
