Moonsorrow vinyl boxset incoming; prepare for serious wallet-ache

Moonsorrow The Collected Works

Moonsorrow are a Finnish folk/pagan metal band, and have been around for quite some time now, releasing six fantastic albums, and one excellent EP. They play a very sombre, serious sounding brand of pagan metal – at odds with other bands from their country, such as Korpiklaani, Turisas, or even Ensiferum - and full disclosure; I love them. They are without a doubt one of the best folk/pagan metal acts around today, and when I saw them live back last September, it is easy to say it was one of the most amazing shows of my life (I also met my current lady at that show, but that’s a whole other story), and interviewing Ville Sorvali, the bassist for the band, was an extremely special moment.

So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw that Moonsorrow just announced that they were releasing a limited 13 LP boxset featuring more than six hours of music that has never been on vinyl before.

The set will be released on Blood Music, and has apparently been in the works for more than a year now. It will be extremely limited, never to be released again, and will contain a fair amount of unreleased music and will pretty much be the greatest thing ever.

Which, of course, means it will be so expensive I probably won’t be able to afford it. All my excitement turned to sadness at that prospect. I can only hope that at some point they’ll release their albums on LP individually as well so that us broke mother-folkers can have a taste of Moonsorrow vinyl as well. If all else fails, I’ll have to find the cash somehow. Perhaps I can sell a kidney or something.

There is no announced release date for this box yet, but it expected to be some time in the summer. Moonsorrow have also stated that we can expect a new album around next summer, which is a long wait, but completely worth it.

And now, have some Moonsorrow music to chew on while you salivate at the thought of this boxset.
