Nordic Giants will drag you towards enlightenment
With the word that Nordic Giants were working on a music video for one of the tracks from their debut LP A Séance Of Dark Delusions, you always knew you were going to get more than a simple performance piece. Their live shows feature a variety of stunning films – either crafted or co-opted from existing work – projected across the stage. It’s an experience on a grand scale, and so with the financial backing of new label Kscope, their own ambitions were ripe to be realised.
The single the band released a month or two ago is the one they also chose to get the treatment. It’s the album’s third track – “Rapture” – and features the vocal talents of Brighton-based singer Beth Cannon, perhaps better known for Written in Waters. She doesn’t physically feature in the video, but is an ever-present part of the enigmatic piece, which debuted today:
As always, NG’s music acts as a score to the scene, pairing keys and synths with crashing percussion. Starring what we can only assume is the two Giants themselves – ‘Loki’ and ‘Roka Skuld’ – in a more post-apocalyptic version of their normal black garb, the pair drag an apparently injured third party – actor Benjamin Bismuth - across a changing landscape, from the beach, across fields and through forests, over a mountain, and to a tree resembling the band’s own wistful logo.
If this piques your teats, the full record is streaming ahead of its release next week on April 27th via Kscope. The pair are on tour next month across the UK, and if you can get to a show, you will not regret it.
