With a career that has thus far spanned about 12 years, Chicago-based band Pelican have carved out a nice little niche for themselves within the post-metal realm. It’s because of this distinction they carry that I found it odd – not in a negative way mind you – that they have a Bandcamp page. One might normally think that Bandcamp is more for DIY projects and bands trying to make a name for themselves in the industry, but Pelican apparently takes this notion and says “Nay!” The band announced over the weekend via their Facebook page that the majority of their discography is available for streaming on their Bandcamp page. It’s an impressive body of work, including 2005′s seminal The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw, and their most recent EP Ataraxia/Taraxis, which came out earlier this year through Southern Lord Records.

If Pelican are one of those bands you have never gotten around to checking out, but have always wanted to, this is obviously your golden opportunity to rectify at least one of your poor life choices.
