Periphery debut live performance video for “The Bad Thing

Periphery The Bad Thing 01

So much good music has come out already this year that it seems like Periphery‘s Juggernaut double-header was a lifetime ago. Such is the world we live in – everything moves super fast – and few more so than the DC dudes’ music itself.

Nevertheless, in an effort to keep the record fresh in everyone’s minds – and remind us what a force it really is – the band have released a new video. The last one, of a more mysterious, conceptual nature, came from Juggernaut: Alpha – the title track in fact – and so this one rightly comes from twin sister Juggernaut: Omega.

A more straightforward mash of live performance dubbed over with the recorded track, they’ve gone for the rifftacular “The Bad Thing“. Drummer Matt Halpern explains:

We thought that a live performance for ‘The Bad Thing’ video was a great way to show the intensity of the song, and to show our direct expression of how it makes us feel on stage.

Brief but understandable. The track features one of the earliest riffs we unknowingly heard from the album before we knew it was even a thing, when guitarist Misha Mansoor used it as part of a home recording tutorial video. It’s still as lip-pursingly satisfying now as it was then, and indeed, it made me go listen to Omega again, so job done.
