Here’s a third new Refused track called “Dawkins Christ”. Will Freedom be your new messiah?

I’m finding it really hard to stay dispassionate about this new Refused record. Of the two songs released so far, one was pretty good and one was catchy but average as fuck. As its release nears, I find my stomach twisted in all sorts of ways. I want to like it, but I also want to be a little punk and go against the grain. What a time to be a feckless and arrogant IMN.

To further help me make my mind up on a record I haven’t heard all the way through, Refused have unveiled a third new track called “Dawkins Christ“. Debuted on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show as her ‘Hottest Record In The World’, and it goes like this:

And I do actually like this one. There’s a pulse to the main guitar line that’s simple but effective; especially when the rhythm sectioned doubles up on it. The lyrics are mostly screamed – bar the female “la la la la” in the intro – making them feel a little more impassioned, but in a less understandable, and less obvious way.

The title’s obviously a reference to Richard Dawkins, the famed evolutionary biologist and God-botherer-botherer, who to some is the figurehead of modern atheism. I can’t quite discern the link right now, but I’m sure there is one.
