Our second spring album release announcement of the day comes from San Francisco post-black metal band Deafheaven, who have today revealed that their new record Sunbather will be released via the peerless Deathwish Inc. in the new year.

It’s not actually recorded yet – that will be happening in January (which creeps ever closer) – but they will be head to the Bay Area’s Atomic Garden studio to work with producer Jack Shirley (who also worked on previous release Roads To Judah) from January 21st to 26th. The band have said that Sunbather will be less melancholic than previous releases, and whilst the black metal element is still there, it’s less prominent than fans might be used to. It’s something you may have gleaned from the name, and we have been warned not to be surprised if there are noticeable rock and pop-driven aspects to it. It certainly sounds interesting!

Keep an eye out for more on this one, including new tour dates for the band in the new year! For the uninitiated, below is “Language Games” from Roads To Judah.
