When independent UK label Basick Records announced a couple of new signings in November last year, one of them simultaneously fit like a glove AND stuck out like a sore thumb (hint: it was not the Dan Tompkins-fronted Skyharbor).

French electronica outfit The Algorithm – which features composer and pointman Rémi Gallego, as well as Monuments drummer Mike Malyan on live drums – are undoubtedly at home in our little subculture though. The samples, glitches and ambient electronics are expertly interspliced with dark and gnarly distortion and spastic staccato drumming that recall the likes of Genghis Tron fondly. In fact, not since them has anything similar of equal quality broken to the fore, so it’s great to have this kind of aggressive yet entirely ‘different’ style back in our lives.

The duo have just put out this video for the track ‘Trojans‘, which will feature on the forthcoming album Polymorphic Code, which is out on November 19th through Basick Records!

The Algorithm have had a busy year, performing at the likes of the most recent two Euroblast Festivals in Germany, as well as Basick’s HMV-fronted Next Big Thing show at the Barfly in Camden in February. Keep an eye out for more, likely Europe-based shows in the near future!
