Last November I attended a special show put on by ambient post-hardcore band The Elijah at the Underworld in Camden, London. One of those epic, wind-in-your-flowing-hair kind of bands, they had drafted in help from the Niche London String Quartet to provide extra epicosity to the proceedings. It worked. Really well.
The show featured the performance of their entire debut album I Loved I Hated I Destroyed I Created from front to back. As it was a one-off show (not easy or practical to pull off on a full tour), the band had it recorded to be released on a live DVD, which will be available from Monday 4th Feb through Small Town Records. By way of advertisement, the song “In Fear” has been revealed to the general public, and can be viewed by your eyes and listened to with your ears (or other preferred listening orifice) below.
This was a seriously good show. The support was excellent (Hello Mexico, check them out), and I don’t know it it was that fan above my head, but I got serious chills throughout the main set. The strings really added an extra dimension and the overall performance was excellent.
