Periphery premiere another new track: “22 Faces”

Periphery - Juggernaut Alpha album art

Since the official announcement of Periphery‘s new double album Juggernaut at the beginning of November, we’ve written about them four times (this is the fifth). That may not sound like a lot, but it’s about once a week, and we tend not to bother with playthrough videos, external interviews, he said/she said bollocks. Fair enough, they’ve two records to promote, but even so, three new songs is quite a bit.

We’re not complaining though; this third new song’s potentially the best of the bunch so far.

22 Faces” is taken from Juggernaut: Alpha , and is immediately more angular and full of energy than previous cuts “The Scourge” and “The Bad Thing“. Frontman Spencer Sotelo said of the song:

“[It's] a very schizophrenic track in nature as far as the structure and instrumentation goes. One minute it is ambient and pretty, and the next minute it is assaulting you from every which way. This track also goes right to the heart of the Juggernaut story and gives a good look at some of the conflicts that the main character has to endure.”

It’s sort of more “Peripheryish” as it were; the previous two have been awesome departures from the normal ‘riffery sound, but departures nonetheless, confirming the somewhat darker tone the band have said will be on the album(s).

Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega are out January 23rd in Australia through Roadrunner Records, January 26th in Europe/the UK through Century Media Records, and through Sumerian Records/Distort/TripleVision Entertainment in the USA, Canada and Japan on the 27th.

Periphery are touring North America in early 2015 with Nothing MoreWovenwar and Thank You Scientist, followed by a European run with Devin Townsend, and a special show in London next April.
